Philando Castile: Teachers Arrested in Protest, Minneapolis by Angela Jimenez

Last night in Minneapolis, for Minnesota Public Radio with reporter Matt Sepic:

Kimberly Colbert, a member of the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers and an English teacher at Central High School in St. Paul, from which Philando Castile graduated 15 years ago, is the last person arrested along with 20 other clergy, parents and teachers during a protest in downtown Minneapolis. Here, she reacts to supportive cheers from the crowd.

Hundreds of teachers and activists joined the march "From Our Schools to the Streets: Justice for Philando Castile," led by the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers, Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and MN Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC) and Black Lives Matter Minneapolis from the Minneapolis Convention Center (where teachers from across the country were gathered for a conference of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the second-largest US teachers union).

The group blocked the intersection outside the US Bank headquarters at South 8th Street and Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 19, 2016.
Organizers said they were protesting the bank's investment in and profiting from the use of force in policing and the private prison industry. The group then returned to the convention center and dispersed.

Philando Castile, a cafeteria worker in the St. Paul public school system who was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop, was a 14-year member of Teamsters Local 320 Minnesota Teamsters Local 320 which represents public and law enforcement employees.

Vocations column for The New York Times by Angela Jimenez

I went down to Faribault, Minnesota on a windy wintery day to photograph a technician at SageGlass doing her thing for The New York Times Business section's Vocations column about all the cool and different things people do for a living. At this place, they make panes of glass that are responsive to sunlight.

Racing Age World Masters in France for NYTimes by Angela Jimenez

I spent my 40th birthday documenting the decathlon and heptathlon at the World Masters Championships in Lyon, France for the New York Times sports section and LENS blog, part of my work on the Racing Age project. My intrepid mom, Polly, traveled with me and worked with me as an assistant, audio tech and general sanity-keeper.
